SUMMARY:Research-Based Tools and Strategies Proven to Help Beginner Readers
DESCRIPTION:Presented by Eyal Rav-Noy and Tzippy Rav-Noy\, Co-Founders of Capit Learning\nSponsored by Capit Learning \nWATCH THE WEBINAR RECORDING\nIf you attended the live session\, you’ll be emailed a CE certificate within 24 hours of the webinar. If you view the recording and would like a CE certificate\, join the Instructional Strategies for Reading Improvement K-8 community and go to the Webinar Archives folder to take the CE quiz. \nResearchers have long known that phonemic awareness is highly correlated with individual differences in childrens’ word-reading skills. Training students in phonemic awareness skills and letter-sound knowledge is recommended in both the United States (NRP\, 2000) and the United Kingdom (Rose\, 2006). But why do some students struggle so much when learning their sounds? How can teachers help their students remember their sounds? Does the research recommend a particular method for teaching these foundational reading skills? \nIn this webinar Eyal Rav-Noy and Tzippy Rav-Noy\, Co-Founders of Capit Learning\, discussed the National Reading Panel Report\, an evidence-based assessment of the scientific research literature on reading and its implications for reading instruction. They shared three tools the report recommends for early readers that often are overlooked by many teachers\, researchers\, and curriculum developers. Learn about these research-based tools that will increase your young students’ phonemic awareness skills and letter-sound knowledge. Learn how to easily integrate the tools into your existing lesson plans and classroom. \nThis webinar is designed for Pre-K through grade one teachers\, transitional kindergarten teachers\, reading specialists\, and ELA coordinators. School librarians and special education teachers also will benefit from this recorded session. \nAbout the Presenters \n\n \n\nEyal and Tzippy Rav-Noy\, Co-Founders of Capit Learning\, have taught thousands of students—both children and adults—to read both English and Hebrew\, for over 18 years.\nThey went on to create their own reading programs which are implemented in schools across the country. Eyal and Tzippy have trained dozens of teachers and reading specialists\, and they tutor special education and special needs students at Capit Learning Center in Los Angeles. \nJoin the Instructional Strategies for Reading Improvement K-8 community to network with educators\, participate in online discussions\, receive invitations to upcoming webinars\, view past webinars\, take a quiz to receive a CE certificate for a past webinar\, and access free resources. \nWATCH THE WEBINAR RECORDING\n CAPIT Reading teaches students to read without “verbal instructions.” Students play with sounds and intuitively create letters\, blend words\, and assemble sentences.

SUMMARY:Using Free Service Learning Resources to Deepen Student Understanding and Create Leaders
DESCRIPTION:Presented by Alanna Brown\, Program Manager\, Pennies for Peace\, and Allison Kucharski\, Teacher\, A. Vito Martinez Middle School\, Illinois\nSponsored by Pennies for Peace \nWATCH THE WEBINAR RECORDING\nIf you attended the live session\, you’ll be emailed a CE certificate within 24 hours of the webinar. If you view the recording and would like a CE certificate\, join the Girls Thinking Global community and go to the Webinar Archives folder to take the CE quiz. \nWatch this webinar to hear how teachers are using a free service-learning curriculum to help their students make a meaningful impact. \nEvery child\, regardless of gender or birthplace\, has a right to an education\, and most people agree. But how do you take that sentiment—that education is a human right—and turn it into actionable service learning? How do you move from asking students to bring in spare change to help girls in Afghanistan get an education\, to helping your students understand why some children don’t get to go to school\, and about the cultural\, political\, and economic realities of life in the developing world? \nMoving from simply believing in a cause to action based on real understanding of the issues—it’s the crux that many teachers struggle with when it comes to service learning. Yet we know that with understanding comes tolerance and sympathy\, and ultimately a deeper learning experience. \nIn this webinar\, learn practical\, easy-to-implement strategies for teaching the often-complicated issues surrounding education in the developing world while helping students: \n\n Develop critical thinking skills\nCollaborate with peers\nLearn about and value other cultures\nRecognize their responsibilities as global citizens\nDevelop empathy\nBelieve they can change the world\n\nThis webinar will benefit social studies K-12 educators\, social studies department chairpersons\, and principals. \nAbout the Presenters \nAlanna Brown holds a master’s degree in Adult and Higher Education and Public Administration. SUMMARY:Rethinking Classroom Containers
DESCRIPTION:Presented by Dr. Sandra Duncan\, Adjunct Professor\, Nova Southeastern University\nSponsored by Gryphon House \nWATCH THE WEBINAR RECORDING\nIf you attended the live session\, you’ll be emailed a CE certificate within 24 hours of the webinar. If you view the recording and would like a CE certificate\, join the Early Learning Book Chats community and go to the Webinar Archives folder to take the CE quiz. \nContainers are essential components to any early childhood classroom. Available in many sizes\, shapes\, and colors\, containers are used to store\, hold\, and tote a variety of learning materials and supplies. They are so commonplace in our classroom environments that rarely a second thought is given to them\, especially after being placed on the shelf. Think about your classroom for a moment and consider all the containers in your space. Most likely\, your thoughts immediately focused on the bins and baskets positioned on the classroom’s shelves and tabletops. Containers\, however\, are much more than bins and baskets. \nIn this webinar\, Dr. Sandra Duncan explored why the primary job of containers in the classroom is not to hold learning materials and objects but to spark children’s interest and engagement with the containers’ contents. She demonstrated the 4 C’s of container selection in detail: \n• Select containers that CAPTURE children’s attention\n• Select containers that are CONVENIENT\n• Select containers that CONNECT children to the activities\n• Use CHILD-CREATED containers in the early childhood classroom \nSandra also discussed the disadvantages of using plastic containers\, measuring the amount of plastic used\, and how to make a plan for reducing the number of plastic baskets in each learner’s classroom. She followed with ideas for alternative types of containers that can be easily used in the classroom regardless of the age group taught. \nThis webinar is designed to help you begin thinking about containers from a unique perspective. Watch for guidelines\, inspiration\, and ways to get started with better container selection. This session is designed for preschool teachers\, but educators working with slightly older children will also benefit from what was shared. \nDr. Sandra Duncan is an Adjunct Professor at Nova Southeastern University. She has over 45 years of experience in the early care and education field. Sandra taught kindergarten for 10 years and owned 11 early childhood programs that served thousands of children. She is the co-Author of Inspiring Spaces for Young Children\, Rating Observation Scale for Inspiring Spaces (ROSIE)\, and Rethinking the Classroom Landscape: Creating Environments that Connect Young Children\, Families\, and Communities. She also was the publisher of two magazines\, where she spearheaded many innovative projects and programs such as Director’s Choice Awards\, Leadership Awards for National Association for Family Child Care\, Early Childhood Professional Awards\, Children’s World of Reading Program\, and Food\, Fitness and Fun!—a program endorsed by National Head Start Association. \nJoin the Early Learning Book Chats community to network with educators\, participate in online discussions\, receive invitations to upcoming webinars\, view past webinars\, take a quiz to receive a CE certificate for a past webinar\, and access free resources. \nWATCH THE WEBINAR RECORDING\nGryphon House\, Inc. is an award-winning publisher of early childhood resources for teachers and parents.

Because the truth is\, most people are born with enough music aptitude to play in a symphony orchestra when they are adults\, if they choose. But first we must learn how to “speak music”—to take the musical instrument we all have\, ourselves\, developing that musical capacity from a very young age. The sounds we make\, our movements\, our rhythms—these are the building blocks of music and of early childhood learning. And that’s what Music Together is all about.
