In this edWebinar, learn a practical approach to helping students avoid one of the major pitfalls of today’s digital media: falling for fake information. Adam Lewandowski, Museum Education at NewseumED, examines real-life case studies that bring to life the challenges of today’s media landscape and model an easy-to-remember and easy-to-implement strategy for staying a step ahead.

Throughout the session, discussion and activities explore best practices for meeting students’ needs for enhanced media savvy in the academic realm and their daily lives. This recorded session will be of particular benefit to social science, language arts, journalism and media educators, as well as librarians in the middle school through higher education levels.

About the Presenter

Adam Lewandowski has been a teacher at the Newseum since October 2014 and taught high school American and world history prior to his arrival. He has a bachelor’s degree in history from the University of Virginia, and a master’s degree in history from George Mason University. Adam cares about teaching history to students, teachers, and the general public, as well as helping them learn and use the essential skills needed to interpret today’s media landscape.

A seasoned tourism and association executive with more than 30 years of experience in the industry, Carylann Assante, CAE serves as the Executive Director of the Student & Youth Travel Association, the international association that promotes student and youth travel worldwide. Carylann is also the Executive Director of the SYTA Youth Foundation, the philanthropic arm that provides scholarships and education experiences for students and youth who are unable to travel due to financial and personal hardship.
