When you hear from Tricia Gerard, you truly understand what it means to be an educator advocate for students with dyslexia. Her passion comes from her own personal journey, which began with a desire to help her son and eventually led to helping many other students in Palm Beach County Schools in Florida. During this edWebinar, Tricia reflects on how small steps created a ripple of positive effects for students, and how several small steps—including working directly with some innovative principals to bring proven structured literacy programs and training for teachers—brought about positive change. Additionally, Tricia highlights the “go-to” resources and technology tools that are making quick strides in improving outcomes for students with dyslexia.

About the Presenter

Tricia Gerard, M.Ed, NBCT, C-SL/DI earned a B.S. from Towson University in Baltimore in Early Childhood and Elementary Education and a Masters degree in Emotional Handicaps from Florida Atlantic University. She is a highly qualified, effective educator with twice National Board Certifications in Exceptional Student Education. Tricia is a certified Dyslexia Practitioner and also holds a Wilson Level One Dyslexia Specialist credential. As the founder of Dyslexia, Learning and Support Group Fl and Decoding Literacy.com, she and other parents of dyslexics are collaborating to change the way literacy in PBC is delivered. She is a member of the Florida Council of Exceptional Children and an active member and presenter for the Florida Branch of the International Dyslexia Association. Tricia has also worked as a general education and special education teacher at both the elementary and secondary levels. She has extensive training working with students who thrive with specialized interventions such as Orton-Gillingham based methods.

About the Host

Terrie Noland currently serves as Vice President of Educator Leadership & Learning at Learning Ally. Terrie’s greatest strengths lie in the ability to motivate, inspire, and create enthusiasm in others to be passionate educators that support the diverse needs of students. Terrie works to develop engagement programs, professional learning services, and communities for educators. Her passion is working with educators to create dynamic classrooms and recognizing educators in their tremendous efforts. She has more than 25 years of experience as both a motivational leader and developer of content for educators and administrators. She has the opportunity to lead and facilitate groups numbering in the thousands helping to build a better understanding of working with struggling readers and students with dyslexia. Terrie is certified as an Academic Language Practitioner and is currently working towards a Ph.D. in literacy, with an emphasis in educational leadership from St. John’s University.
