It has been said that a school’s mission and vision are the means by which school leaders enlist the help and participation of stakeholders to focus on an agreed-upon destination. A strong mission and vision are vital to the growth of any organization, especially schools. How can leaders get everyone to participate in the mission and vision creation process, and ensure the document serves the purpose it was intended to serve?

Creating Your School’s Mission and Vision is part of a new series of edWebinars in the Principal Leadership: Making a Difference community on edWeb. This series will be based on the results of the 2019 Principal Leadership Survey where administrators shared their biggest challenges, accomplishments, and the topics they are most interested in.

In this edWebinar, join high school principal Shannon Holden and special guests as they discuss the most effective ways to build a school’s mission and vision. This presentation is of interest to all school leaders and any educator interested in how to create positive and effective learning environments in today’s world. 

About the Presenters

Todd Nesloney is the director of culture and strategic leadership for the Texas Elementary Principals and Supervisors Association (TEPSA). He has also served as an award-winning principal of a preK-5th grade campus of over 775 students in a rural town in Texas. He has been recognized by the White House, John C Maxwell, the Center for Digital Education, National School Board Association, the BAMMYS, and more for his work in education and with children. Todd’s first book, Kids Deserve It!, which was co-written with Adam Welcome, was a runaway smash. Since then he has authored Stories From Webb and co-authored Sparks in the Dark with Travis Crowder. He also hosts the podcast Tell Your Story and is very active on social media under the moniker Tech Ninja Todd. He is passionate about doing whatever it takes for our students and helping others tell their story.

Dr. Alice Lee is the proud principal of Richmond Street School in California. She is an avid reader of children’s books and passionate about literacy, learning, education, and instructional pedagogy. She has been an assistant principal, teacher, instructional coach, professional developer, and school site coordinator. She has also taught abroad in Korea and Thailand as an English teacher. She is a three-time UCLA graduate and completed her doctorate in educational leadership with her dissertation focused on exploring lesson study as an improvement strategy for high-stakes accountability schools, students, and teachers. She has an Ed.D. in educational leadership, M.Ed. in elementary education, and administrative credential. Find her on Twitter @dralicetlee.

About the Host

Shannon Holden, Principal at Pierce City High School in Missouri, is the TechTools for the Classroom, Teacher HELP!, and Principal Leadership edWebinar and community host. Shannon served as an assistant principal for 20 years in Texas and Missouri, has taught high school history and math, and was an online instructor at the university level. Shannon presents frequently to teachers and administrators about classroom management, maintaining positive relationships with parents, instructional strategies that engage students, and implementing technology in the classroom.
