Create Safe and Equitable Learning Environments through Ethical Decision-Making

Tuesday, December 10, 2019 @ 4:00 pm - 5:00 pm EST

Create Safe and Equitable Learning Environments

Presented by Josh Parker, Director, Unbound Ed; and Toni Thompson, Associate Superintendent of Human Resources, San Antonio ISD (TX)
Hosted by Meredith Christiansen, Strategic Advisor, ETS

Sponsored by ETS ProEthica

We’re sorry but the recording for this edWebinar is no longer available.

To support student achievement, educators often go beyond their roles as instructors—they must also be prepared to handle students’ social-emotional needs in situations where students may be at high risk. These demands increase the inherent risks and vulnerabilities in the profession. As a result, educators face daily ethical dilemmas in their interactions with students, colleagues, and the community.

By creating a safe and equitable learning environment, we recognize risk and develop a decision-making framework based on professional ethics. Josh Parker draws on his experiences as a teacher, campus leader, compliance specialist, and director for Unbound Ed to explore ethical decisions that may impact instructional effectiveness. Josh also examines how ethics relates to the goal of providing a safe and equitable learning environment for all learners.

Josh is joined by Toni Thompson, an administrator with extensive experience educating students with profound emotional needs. Ms. Thompson serves as a school district human resources director assisting educators with navigating dilemmas they face. She shares a framework for ethical decision-making that has been used in her district, and you’ll learn how this framework and collaborative discussion supports educators in navigating risks.

Learn how district and campus leaders can develop a standard of care and a culture of transparency and accountability for ethical behavior with take back resources and strategies you can use in your school or district. This edWebinar is moderated by ETS’s Meredith Christiansen, a champion for the professional ethics in education.

This recorded edWebinar will be of interest to preK through high school teachers, librarians, school and district leaders, and HR leadership.
