How does media impact youth and how do youth impact media? The entertainment media that tweens and teens spend hours consuming shape their attitudes and behaviors, and as such can be an effective way to impact social learning. Meanwhile, technology, social media, and device accessibility have created a generation ready to share, critique, and be heard. This edWebinar focuses on positive youth development, entertainment media, and scientific research.
In this edWebinar, Dr. Yalda Uhls, Founder and Executive Director of the Center for Scholars and Storytellers, presents research on:

About the Presenter
A former movie executive, Dr. Yalda T. Uhls left the movie industry to study child development, earning a Ph.D. in psychology at UCLA. Dr. Uhls’s expertise in how media content is created and the science of how media affects children informs her unique perspective. As a believer in bridging research and practice, along with many years of translational work for lay audiences, she founded The Center for Scholars & Storytellers, an organization dedicated to bridging the work of child development researchers and youth content creators. Dr. Uhls is also an assistant adjunct professor at UCLA where she does research on how media affects the social behavior of tweens and teens. She is a senior advisor for national non-profit Common Sense Media, and is the author of the parenting book Media Moms & Digital Dads: A Fact-Not-Fear Approach to Parenting in the Digital Age.
