What are the Educational Benefits of Homework?
Novice teachers are put in a precarious position when it comes to assigning homework to their students – their veteran mentors tell them to load students down with it, while research shows that there is little (if any) educational benefit to assigning homework. edWeb community, New Teacher Help, held a webinar this month addressing the different perspectives on homework which can present a particularly tricky dilemma for new teachers. Webinar presenter, Shannon Holden, Assistant Principal of Republic Middle School in Missouri, helps teachers find ways to reconcile these two viewpoints, with the goal of helping students learn.
