Students with autism present many unique challenges within a classroom environment. At the core of the diagnosis are deficits/delays in the areas of socialization, communication, and sensory functioning that can result in inappropriate and maladaptive behavior. The behaviors may be harmful to the student or others, and can also interfere with learning or be socially stigmatizing. In order to effectively address these behaviors, educators must first understand them, then develop individualized treatment strategies.

After showing how to identify each of the four functions of behavior, this webinar provided specific strategies to treat behaviors, explain ways to collect data to monitor behaviors, and discuss the importance of reinforcement. The webinar will benefit both special and general education teachers, and paraprofessionals, CST, and administrators.
