Visual and concrete models support coherent content progressions in mathematics because they can be used across the grade levels. In this edWebinar, James Burnett, President and Co-founder of ORIGO Education, shares how you can make the most out of math models with your students. His presentation includes:

  • A brief introduction to the four visual models that are often used to teach various aspects of numbers in the elementary grades: the array/area model, the length model, the number line model, and the set model
  • A discussion of the benefits of using the array/area model for the development of multiplication facts in the lower grades
  • A demonstration of how this same thinking can be extended up the grades to provide conceptual understanding of multiplication strategies for whole numbers (including the algorithm), fractions, and decimals

This recorded session is designed for K-6 teachers, primary math teachers, math curriculum directors, elementary math supervisors, elementary math coordinators, elementary administrators, elementary special education teachers or specialists, math interventionists, and Title I math teachers.
