A school vision must be a living, breathing tool, not a statement that collects dust and is easily forgotten. A collaboratively, illustratively crafted school vision brings a sense of purpose, alignment and camaraderie to the entire faculty. This recorded webinar introduces viewers to a simple process that engages colleagues and builds deeper understanding of each other’s sense of purpose and pedagogy. This process helps to establish a universal vocabulary and align on key words that belong in a school vision statement. Using the Art Elements and Principles of Design, educators will visually express the meaning of their vision, build consensus and  visually show their priorities.

Learning outcomes:

  • Explore an exercise that will help your Learning Community articulate and align on a collaboratively crafted school vision. See examples of how other schools have used this and how their vision statements come alive.
  • Use the Art Elements and Principles of Design to visually communicate the meaning in your school vision.
  • Be inspired to post your collaboratively crafted school vision.

Special Invitation: As special recognition for the educators who share their team’s collaboratively crafted school vision based on this webinar, after the live broadcast, the team will receive a complimentary gift from Crayola. Fifty members of the Champion Creativity community who upload their art to the Discussion Forum, “Crafting a Unifying School Vision,” will receive 24 boxes Crayola Construction Paper Crayons. The Discussion Forum is only accessible to members of the Champion Creativity community and the deadline to upload your team’s school vision is December 11, 2015. While we’d love to see your crafted school vision—wherever you live, shipping this gift is only applicable for members in the U.S. and Canada.

Join the Champion Creativity community to participate in online discussions with peers, for invitations to upcoming webinars, to view past webinar recordings, to take a quiz and receive a CE certificate for a past webinar, and for access to more resources.

cheri sterman crayolaCheri Sterman helps educators revisit their school mission statements through a joyous, collaborative process. She leverages the insight that it is basic human nature to embrace and remember something a person has helped create. Cheri developed an interactive process that aligns faculty on school priorities and gives a voice to each member of the Learning Community. She authored articles in the Champion Creatively Alive Children Principal magazine that describe the importance of empowering teachers to articulate a unifying school vision—leveraging teacher leaders to coach peers so the entire school moves closer to the desired destination.  This workshop has been presented at the National Association of Elementary School Principals, National Art Education Association, Dodge Foundation Art Integration Summit, Arkansas A+ Summit, and the President’s Committee for the Arts and the Humanities’ Turn Around Arts Institute.
