PRINCETON, NJ, June 19, 2013 – edWeb.net, a professional social and learning network for the education community, has announced that ISTE SIGML, a worldwide advocate for mobile learning, has joined CoSN in co-hosting the edWeb.net online learning community Mobile Learning Explorations.
The goal of ISTE SIGML is to foster a community of stakeholders to support the use of mobile learning and promote best practices in the area of mobile and wireless computing integration in education.
The Mobile Learning Explorations community hosts a monthly webinar presented by industry and educational experts who explore the potential of hand-held devices to enrich learning, bridge the digital divide, and extend learning beyond the traditional school day. This summer the series will present two webinars: Mobile Learning: The Time is Now on Wednesday, July 10th and Mobile Apps for English Language Arts & Literacy on Wednesday, August 7th.
Lisa Schmucki, founder and CEO of edWeb, commented, “We are always looking to broaden the collaboration within our online learning communities. CoSN has been a fabulous partner in helping us present a series of webinars on mobile learning that has attracted wide-spread recognition. As a result, we are delighted that ISTE SIGML would like to become a part of this program to help educators at all levels to integrate mobile technology into learning.”
ISTE SIGML is also using edWeb as a platform for SIGML members to share successes and challenges, find support, disseminate best practices, examine issues, and provide recommendations that support the integration of mobile devices in different learning environments.
If you’re attending ISTE 2013, SIGML will be hosting two events:
SIGML Mobile MEGAShare is an opportunity to collaborate with other mobile educators from across the country for a pre-conference free event on Saturday, June 22nd from 2-6pm. Virtual participants can join in on Twitter @MMEGAShare #MMEGAShare and on Adobe Connect.
SIGML’s Mobile Share Charity Event is collecting older, used mobile devices, refurbishing and cleaning them and getting them back in the hands of students. ISTE is providing donation bins at registration for your used mobile devices.
